Insurance arrangements
Windmill Youth Development Group maintains insurance appropriate to the activities undertaken directly by the charity.
The charity’s insurance arrangements are periodically reviewed to ensure they remain appropriate to its current operating model.
Our operating model
The Windmill Youth Group operates primarily as a charitable funding and youth-development organisation.
We provide financial and practical support to help eligible young people access approved opportunities, including Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions and residential programmes.
The Windmill Youth Group does not directly organise or deliver expeditions, residential programmes or other adventurous activities.
Where charitable funding is provided for such an activity, operational delivery is undertaken by an independent third-party provider.
Insurance of activity providers
Providers delivering activities funded by the Windmill Youth Group are expected to maintain insurance appropriate to the activities and services they provide.
As part of our provider due-diligence process, the Windmill Youth Group may require evidence of relevant insurance before approving a provider for a funded opportunity.
The provider remains responsible for ensuring that its insurance is current, adequate and appropriate for the activities it delivers.
Responsibility for delivery
Funding an individual’s participation, making payment to a provider or identifying an appropriate provider does not make the Windmill Youth Group the organiser or operator of that provider’s activity.
The relevant provider remains responsible for the operational management and delivery of its programme, including staffing, supervision, risk management, safeguarding, emergency arrangements and insurance relating to its activities.
Participants and parents or guardians should familiarise themselves with the provider’s own terms, conditions and insurance arrangements before participating.
